18th September - 18th December, Thessaloniki
The Teloglion Foundation, since its establishment in 1972, has been a cultural oasis for the city of Thessaloniki. It quickly came under the auspices and supervision of the Aristotle University. Its core consists of the personal art Collection and the entire property of Nestor and Aliki Telloglou, which were granted before the death of the donor’s to the university community.
The main part of the Collection consists of works by Greek artists of the 19th and 20th century and includes oils, watercolors, drawings, prints and sculptures. In addition, there are artworks from different cultures and eras, from the Roman period to Arabic and Chinese cultural tradition. The main trunk was further enriched by the donations of Tony and Joan Spiteris of George Mourelos, by Dimitrios Tsamis’s Collection, and by donations
from artists and art lovers.
The Teloglion Foundation of Arts, was inaugurated in the December of 1999 with the exhibition Collections and Donations. It’s housed in a modern, impressive building of 5500 sq.m on the northern green edge of the campus and it has a view of the Thermaikos gulf. Its ultimate goal is the systematic acquaintance of the visitors with the art, the collection, the record and study of our cultural heritage, the creation of conditions suitable for cooperation between the artists and scholars and the meaningful contact of the children with the artwork through special educational programs.
To this end, the Teloglion has organized a series of major exhibitions of the great masters. These started in January 2008 with the Suite 347 by Picasso and continued in September 2009 with Mirο of Mallorca. These ambitious efforts, despite all sorts of difficulties, both economic and organizational, continued in 2010-2011 with the exhibition Toulouse-Lautrec. This focused on the great artist’s work which celebrated the Belle Epoque and praised its world of entertainment, cabaret, cafe-concerts, dance and music.
