Dionisis Kavallieratos

Born (1979) in Athens. He lives and works in Berlin. He graduated from the Athens School of Fine Arts in 2002 and completed the Radar Project residency in Venice and Krakow in 2003-2004. Kavallieratos’ versatile practice includes large and small-scale sculpture in wood, ceramics and mixed media, and pencil and charcoal drawings. His work reveals a stupendous inner universe -a meta-pop melting-pot of mythology/history/politics/religion- tackling fundamental themes of good and bad, life and death, sex, heroism and immortality with surreal, razor-sharp wit and controversy. Recent solo exhibitions: Barbeque in the Abyss, AKA (Berlin, 2010); The Curse of the Monk, Bugada/Cargnel (formerly Cosmic) Gallery (Paris, 2009); The Ejaculation of the Demon, (with Iris van Dongen), The Breeder, (Athens, 2008); The Breeder, (Athens, 2005). Recent group exhibitions: Ντέρτι Humanism, Faggionato Fine Arts (London, 2011); Satan Get Behind Me and Push, Peres Projects (Berlin, 2010); Athens Biennale (2009).

trees stand tall even when they get burned.

Those who worry about their soul's salvation,

they shouldn't.

Their God shall save it,

he will buy it second hand, half price ,

from his friend the Devil.
